Caitlin Tabor and Jessica Halligan built The Hippie Homestead around family, creativity, and a “shoppable little shed” outside of Kimball.

KIMBALL — Caitlin Tabor doesn’t try to romanticize her schedule. She doesn’t pretend her days are quiet, slow, or neatly contained.
“I’m definitely a very busy mom,” she said.
That simple description carries a lot of weight. Tabor is the mother of four children ranging in age from 12 to 21, a homemaker, a business owner, a homesteader, a reader, a baker, a community member, and one half of the creative partnership behind The Hippie Homestead. Her days are shaped by intention, routine, and a constant awareness of what matters most.
“It’s really hectic,” she said. “Right now, I’m up early, around 4:30 or 5 o’clock. Time with my Bible, time to journal. Just some time before the chaos begins for the day.”
That early-morning stillness is not accidental. Before the dogs need fed, before the cats weave through the house, before the chickens are waiting to be let out and eggs collected, before kids start moving in different directions, Tabor takes time to center herself. Faith, reflection, and quiet structure her day long before business ever enters the picture. From there, life moves quickly. Animals need care. Meals need to be planned. Laundry, cleaning, and household tasks stack up. She tries to get as much done in the mornings as possible — sometimes sneaking in a workout — before shifting her focus to business in the afternoon.
“I have a pretty rigid schedule that I follow just to keep me accountable for the day,” she said.
That balance — structure paired with creativity — is the foundation of The Hippie Homestead, a small but steadily growing business that reflects the way Tabor and her business partner, Jessica Halligan, live their lives. Long before The Hippie Homestead had a name, Tabor and her husband made a decision that still guides nearly every choice they make.
