‘I absolutely love what I get to do’

Debby Wagner of Scottsbluff has always been passionate about music, especially singing, and over the years she’s performed for a number of musical groups and bands. She’s currently the lead singer for local bands Loaded Dice and Soultry Sounds, and she also does several other live performances throughout the year. Wagner, who won the first Voice of the Valley contest in 2018, said she’s grateful she also gets to be involved in music as a performing arts liaison/admission’s counselor at WNCC.

SCOTTSBLUFF – Debby Wagner can’t help but laugh a little when she remembers how shy she was growing up.

“Even at a restaurant, I would whisper my order in my mom’s ear so she could be the one to tell them what I wanted,” she said. “I was really shy around everyone.”

There was one thing, however, that brought Wagner out of her shell: singing.

“I sang all the time, and it didn’t matter who was around,” she said. “Yes, I was super shy, but if you asked me to sing or to perform in the spotlight, I was out there. You couldn’t shut me up. I’m not sure why I was that way. There was just something about music that was super powerful to me.”
