Chadron High School senior Levi Glines suffered a severe hand injury while tying up a horse in August, an injury that has prevented him from playing football and doing certain everyday tasks. It’s also an injury that he worries might keep him from achieving his dream of being a pilot in the Air Force. Glines, however, refuses to get down on himself and instead focuses on the many things he can still do in life despite having an injured left hand.

CHADRON – Levi Glines of Chadron was out in his barn Saturday morning, Aug. 24, getting things ready so he and his family could take off for Oelrichs, South Dakota, to compete in a local rodeo.
Glines began doing something that he’s done hundreds of times before – tying up a horse. But this time, as Glines was pulling a loop through the rope to finish tying the knot, his brother’s horse started pulling itself backward. The sudden jerk caused Glines’ left hand to go into the knot, trapping three of his fingers tightly in the rope.
“I’ve had horses pull back before, but normally I’m either just starting the knot or it’s already done, so then it wouldn’t matter if the horse pulled back,” said Glines, a senior at Chadron High School. “I’ve never had a horse pull back in the middle of the process. It’s one of those deals where it will probably never happen again to me.”
But it did this time, and it will affect Glines for the rest of his life.
