‘I never thought I would be doing something like this’

Joy Hessler says she struggled with being overweight for many years, but some lifestyle changes, including getting involved in a weight loss program and a fitness routine, helped her lose nearly 80 pounds. She said this is now the happiest and healthiest she’s ever been, and her passion is to help other people live a happier and healthier life. That’s why she recently opened her own business in Scottsbluff called Momentum Weight Loss and Training Center.

Not long after graduating from Douglas High School in 1994, Joy Hessler got married, and she and her husband moved across the country to start their life together.

She ended up having her first child when she was 20. Soon after that, Hessler’s weight started going up – from about 150 pounds to 215.

“I didn’t put myself first when my kids were younger, so I lived with being over 200 pounds for many years,” she said.

She said she never liked being overweight, however, especially since it was affecting her overall health.

“I was out of breath all the time, and I definitely had some health issues going on,” she said. “I thought, ‘I’m too young to be overweight and having health issues.”
