‘I want to help make as many miracles happen as I can’

Alex Jines of Alliance grew up wanting to help people, but for years it was Jines herself who needed help after battling drug addictions, going through an abusive relationship, and dealing with the tragic death of her twin sister. Fortunately, the 29-year-old Jines managed to overcome those painful experiences, and several years ago she began helping other people with substance abuse issues. She now has her own private, substance abuse counseling practice in Alliance, and one of her big goals is to eventually open a mental health center in Alliance so she can help people with mental health issues, too.

ALLIANCE – Alex Jines started to get a little frustrated in 2013 when her attempts to find a job in Alliance seemed to be going nowhere.

“I applied everywhere, but I wasn’t getting any calls back for interviews,” she said.

She decided to apply at one more place – Human Services, Inc., a rehabilitation center in Alliance that offers comprehensive, trauma informed residential and non-residential counseling programs for individuals and families affected by alcohol and/or drug abuse.

Shortly after filling out an application, Jines was asked to do an interview, and she was then offered a job working as a rehab technician.

“I had no idea what to expect – I hadn’t even heard of that place before a friend told me they were looking for help,” Jines said. “But it was a job, so I took it.”

As a rehab technician, Jines had a number of responsibilities, including making sure clients went to bed on time, organizing activities for clients, and helping to provide meals for clients.

Jines fell in love with the job almost immediately.

“I thought it was a really cool job,” she said. “I ended up meeting some of the neatest people who had really sad stories.”
