‘I’ll always want to help people’

Growing up on a farm and ranch, Amanda Stricker of Bayard developed a love for helping animals, and her goal was to become a veterinarian. She eventually changed her mind, though, instead pursuing something else that she’s always been passionate about – helping people. She worked as a phlebotomist for a while, and then she spent 7 years working as an EMT and firefighter for the Bayard Volunteer Fire Department. She’s now in her fourth year working for Morrill County Community Hospital in Bridgeport, doing everything she can to help people as a paramedic and also as the emergency preparedness coordinator.

BAYARD – Amanda Stricker made up her mind at an early age that she was going to spend the rest of her life caring for animals.

She developed that interest while growing up on a farm and ranch just north of Bayard.

“I loved taking care of our cows and horses and other animals,” she said. “That was my favorite thing to do growing up on the ranch. As I got older and thought about what I wanted to do with my life, I was dead set on becoming a veterinarian.”
