‘I’m very thankful for the power of forgiveness’

Ron Walker of Mitchell spent nearly 2 1/2 years in prison for a decision he made that caused hardship and pain to many people who loved and cared for him. Three years after getting released from prison, Walker still has deep regrets about what he did. But he’s been focusing on turning his life around, and what’s helped him do that, he said, are the family members, friends and other people in the community who have been willing to forgive him and give him a second chance.

MITCHELL – Ask Ron Walker of Mitchell how he’s doing these days, and he’ll quickly reply that he’s happy, blessed, and content.

He’s grateful for his job, working as a full-time farm hand for JD Farms. He’s also grateful for the time he gets to spend with his wife and their four children, including worshipping with them at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering.

He also appreciates “lots of little things in life,” such as watching the sun rise and the sun set and feeling the breeze hit his face, especially on a warm, sunny day.

“I feel so blessed in so many ways,” he said.

Walker realizes that now more than ever. The reason is that for nearly two and a half years, he had all of his freedoms taken away when he was incarcerated for making the biggest mistake of his life.
