‘It feels absolutely amazing to beat this so I can do what I love to do’

Kelly Davis of Lyman was devastated in September 2018 when she found out she had breast cancer. Battling cancer was both physically and emotionally difficult for Kelly, who wasn’t able to help her husband on their ranch or do other things that she loves to do, like riding horses and taking care of her other livestock. Kelly, however, ended up beating cancer, and she feels more blessed than ever to be able to spend time with her family, work on their ranch, and share her passion for the history of this area by owning and operating Dome Rock Livery Stable at Legacy of the Plains Museum in Gering.

LYMAN – Kelly Davis and her husband, Steve, have lived in the Panhandle for only a little over two years. But they’re as excited and passionate about this area as just about anyone you’ll find.

Kelly and her husband moved to the Lyman area from Brighton, Colorado.

“The Front Range has gotten so populated, so we decided we wanted to move, and this seemed like a great area to move to,” Kelly said. “My family homesteaded Boulder County [in Colorado] in 1860, and this area is like my home was years ago.

“I absolutely love this area. I think it’s beautiful, the people are great, and I love the history of this particular area. This is our home now, and we don’t plan on ever leaving.”

Kelly and her husband live on a ranch near Lyman. They stay plenty busy, running cattle and growing hay.

They also enjoy taking care of horses – they own 26 of them, in fact. Kelly and Steve and their two children – Steviejo, a student at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, and Jake, a fifth-grader in Morrill – love riding horses.

They also love sharing their passion for riding and their knowledge about the history of this area with other people. That’s why they opened Dome Rock Livery Stable, a horseback trail riding company, at Legacy of the Plains Museum in Gering in May 2019.
