‘It’s changed how I live my life’

In the last year and a half, Mandy Horn of Whitney has overcome a brain aneurysm that nearly took her life as well as severe complications from gallbladder surgery. Although she struggled physically and emotionally during those difficult times, she said going through those experiences caused her to make some positive changes in her life, such as taking better care of herself and spending more time with the people she loves.

CRAWFORD – After leaving work in Hay Springs on May 11, 2018, Mandy Horn stopped to pick up some groceries in Chadron before heading to her home in Whitney, which is about 15 miles southwest of Chadron.

As soon as she walked in the door, she headed to her bedroom to change her clothes. She was in somewhat of a hurry because she needed to leave soon to attend her son’s school concert in Crawford.

As Horn was changing her clothes, however, she suddenly felt a searing pain in her head.

“It was like a bomb had exploded inside me,” she said.

She blacked out and then collapsed to the floor.
