SCOTTSBLUFF – Growing up in Hill City, South Dakota, Gary Gorman never really considered volunteering. His focus was on going to school and helping his parents on the family farm.
Not long after he graduated from high school, however, the then 20-year-old Gorman was asked if he would like to join the Hill City Jaycees, a civic organization that helped with local community service projects.
He attended one of the Jaycees’ meetings, liked what he saw, and agreed to become a member.
“I thought it would be fun,” he said, “and I was happy to help.”
Over the years, Gorman never lost his desire to lending a helping hand. In fact, the now 63-year-old Gorman is in his 44th year of volunteering.
