Jason Rogers, a captain for the Gering Police Department, has been named Nspire Today!’s Hometown Hero of the Week, sponsored by Schank Roofing in Scottsbluff.
Rogers is in his 25th year working for the Gering Police Department. He began his law enforcement career in 1994 as a patrol officer and stayed in that position until 2001. He was then promoted to lieutenant and remained in that position until 2007, when he was promoted to captain.
Rogers, a 1989 Gering High School graduate, is on the United Way of Western Nebraska Board of Directors and is also involved in Leadership Scotts Bluff. He’s also on the local Emergency Planning Committee.
The person who nominated Rogers said, “I think Jason Rogers is very good at what he does. He’s helped so many people in the community. He really cares about people – he wants the best for every individual. Also, in addition to working hard for the police department, I know he’s a good family man, and he’s a man of faith. He’s a good role model for people in the Gering community, especially the youth. I think he deserves to be recognized.”
Rogers said he’s enjoyed serving the City of Gering.
“It’s been a blessing,” he said. “The city has always treated us well, and I think the citizens of Gering, for the most part, have always had a very high opinion of the Gering Police Department. I think that has a lot to do with the way we treat the public and the mutual respect we show each other. For me, it’s hard to fathom working anywhere else, just because of the great relationships we have here.”
As for being nominated for the Hometown Hero honor, he said, “To be recognized is humbling because I’m not out in the forefront like our patrol officers and sergeants are. I’m doing the background stuff, so it’s humbling that somebody would think of me in that way when we’ve got numerous men and women who do this job every day who are just as, if not more, deserving of the recognition.”
Nspire Today! and Schank Roofing say “thank you” to Rogers for his contributions in the community.
