‘Life is too precious to stay down’

Cherie Miles of Lingle, Wyoming, suffered severe head trauma, a broken back, and other injuries about seven years ago in a horse accident. Although she was never able to fully recover from that accident, she didn’t let that stop her from providing the best care she could for her two boys and even a 2-year-old girl whose mother passed away suddenly. Nowadays, Miles still suffers from back pain and other ailments, but she refuses to let that keep her from enjoying ‘all the good things in life.’

LINGLE, Wyo. – It was late in the morning on May 3, 2013, and Cherie Miles and her husband at the time, Shane Limmer, drove to Ed Greenwald Farms near Lingle, Wyoming, to move some cattle.

They unloaded their horse trailer, climbed up onto their horses, and started riding out toward the meadows.

Something happened, though, that spooked the horse Cherie was riding on. The horse jerked back, causing Cherie to fall off. She hit her head hard on the ground, knocking her out. The nearly 1,500-pound horse then rolled on top of Cherie.

“Shane thought I was dead,” Cherie said.
