FEATURE: Making a positive impact on young people

When Jeff Halley graduated from Lingle-Ft. Laramie High School in 1988, he wanted to pursue a career in sports marketing. He later ended up changing his mind, though, instead entering a career in education, just like many of his relatives did. That turned out to be a good move by Halley as he’s become one of the most successful coaches in Wyoming and one of the most respected teachers, too.

TORRINGTON, Wyo. – Like many kids do, Jeff Halley started to spend a little more time thinking about what he wanted to do for a career his junior and senior years of high school.

Since he was interested in sports – he excelled in football, basketball and track and field at Lingle-Ft. Laramie High School, where he graduated from in 1988 – he thought a career in sports marketing would be a great fit for him.

“That was the time when everyone was going nuts over Jordan and Nike, so I thought it would be cool to be a representative for Nike,” he said. “I thought sports marketing would make me rich.”
