‘Music has always seemed to find me’

Tami Lippstreu was a talented piano player growing up in Mitchell, but she didn’t intend to focus much on music as a career. However, after graduating from Nebraska Wesleyan University with an economics degree, Lippstreu continued to have opportunities to play the piano in Scottsbluff, whether it was for churches, local music groups, or private lessons. Another big opportunity came her way in 1992, when she accepted an offer to join the music department staff at WNCC. She’s now entering her 19th year at WNCC, working both as an accompanist and as an adjunct teacher. She also continues to serve as the managing director at Theatre West in Scottsbluff as well as the music director at First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff.

SCOTTSBLUFF – Looking back, Tami Lippstreu of Scottsbluff believes it was just a matter of time before she started playing the piano.

Her mom, Lois Yamada, had played the piano, and Tami was eager for the day when she herself could start playing the piano. She got her chance when she was 7.

“My family wanted me to play, and I was excited about it,” she said. “I feel like playing the piano was really for me. It always came easily to me, but I did have some good instructors.”
