Jean and Jim Peck have been named Northfield Retirement Communities’ Residents of the Month for February 2021.
Jean, 87, and Jim, 86, have been living in a two-bedroom apartment at NRC’s The Residency for about a year.
“Unfortunately, it’s been a year when we’ve been isolated and haven’t had much contact with anybody, but we certainly have everything we need here,” Jean said. “Our apartment fills our needs, and the meals here have been really good. We have no complaints about our apartment or the facility.”
Jean said she and Jim moved into The Residency so they could be closer to their daughter, Helen Reinhardt, who lives in Scottsbluff. Jean and Jim had been living in Lincoln.
“Helen is the youngest of our four children, and she’s the only one who still lives in Nebraska, so it was the best decision for us,” Jean said. “Helen really wanted us to live in Scottsbluff because she said, ‘I can’t take care of you if you’re 400 miles away.’ She hasn’t needed to take care of us here in Scottsbluff, but it is nice to have her nearby.”
Jean said she and Jim enjoyed living in Lincoln for nearly 40 years.
“It’s the premier spot to live if you like Nebraska sports, which we thoroughly do,” Jean said. “We’re big Husker fans. We went to as many games as we could. As far as the city, it’s a very nice-sized community. It has anything you could want.”
The Pecks, however, have adjusted well to living in Scottsbluff.
