Taydon Gorsuch, a senior at Gering High School, had no interest in competing in rodeo while he was growing up, even though his dad, Dean Gorsuch, was a two-time world steer wrestling champion and a Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame inductee. The younger Gorsuch changed his mind, though, just before his freshman year, and he’s been competing in steer wrestling since then. He’s been pretty good at it, too, including placing 17th in the world at the high school national finals rodeo in July. Taydon, who aims to perform even better this next high school rodeo season, plans to continue his rodeo career in college, and he also has dreams now of competing in pro rodeo, just like his father did.

GERING – Growing up, Taydon Gorsuch had nothing but respect and admiration for his father, Dean Gorsuch, a two-time world champion steer wrestler who was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2019.
But as far trying to follow in his father’s footsteps, the younger Gorsuch had no interest in getting involved in rodeo himself.
“I got burnt out on rodeo because wherever my dad went, I went with him,” said Taydon, who’s now a senior at Gering High School. “We could be gone for a couple days or a couple weeks or longer. It seemed like we were always gone, so I kind of grew to not like the sport. I was excited for my dad, but I had no desire to try it myself. I didn’t think it would be fun.”
