CHADRON – Every once in a while, a young athlete appears on the high school sports scene and takes the community by storm. In Chadron – a town where local sports are both a pastime and a point of collective pride – that athlete is Quinn Bailey.

A modest yet fiercely competitive individual, Bailey devoted his high school years to excelling in two of the most demanding sports around: wrestling and football. By the time he walks out of Chadron High School for the last time as a student-athlete, he will have piled up a staggering array of accolades.

Three consecutive state wrestling championships cemented his name among the Cornhusker state’s all-time greats, while eye-popping rushing totals on the football field placed him at the pinnacle of Panhandle history. But statistics only tell part of the story. As coaches, fans, and teammates will readily attest, Bailey’s biggest impact might very well be his leadership, humility, and down-to-earth integrity.

Bailey’s odyssey into competitive sports began much like any other small-town kid’s – with boundless energy and the urge to try every activity possible. He was introduced to wrestling around the second grade, often signing up for tournaments primarily “because that’s what kids in town were doing.”
