GORDON – Carter Anderson, a senior at Gordon-Rushville High School, is Nspire Today!’s Male Athlete of the Month for December. He recently was named the WTC 11-Man Offensive MVP. A four-year starter, Anderson set several records during his high school football career, and he’s also received a number of other postseason honors. This season he started at quarterback and free safety. Anderson will also be starting for the fourth straight year in basketball. He plays shooting guard. He’s received a number of postseason honors in that sport as well. He’s also a standout in rodeo, competing in calf roping and team roping. He’s qualified for nationals each of the last three years, including placing 11th in calf roping this past July. In addition to excelling in sports. Anderson is one of the top students academically in western Nebraska. He holds a 3.979 GPA and is involved in NHS. In choir, Anderson has been selected to the WTC Honor Choir four times, and last year he was also chosen to the Mid-Plains Honor Choir. Outside of school, he helps his family on their ranch, and he’s also been a volunteer for the youth football and basketball programs in Gordon. After high school, Anderson plans to attend a community college, where he wants to rodeo and study ag business and accounting. His parents are Angela and Travis Anderson.
Q: Talk about how this past football season went for Gordon-Rushville.
ANDERSON: “I thought it went pretty good. We started off pretty rough, but we picked up the pace a little bit, and we went on a five-game winning streak. We won our district and made it to the first round of the playoffs.”
