NSPIRING YOUTH: Hemingford wrestler reflects on ‘amazing’ moment, sets sights on making school history

Creel Weber of Hemingford started wrestling at age 4, and a big reason why was because of his dad, who was a coach, and his older brothers, who were both successful wrestlers. As Creel grew older, he desired to become one of the top wrestlers in the state himself, and he achieved that each of the last two years as he qualified for the Nebraska state tournament. He qualified for state again this year, and the junior earned his biggest thrill ever as he captured the Class D 113-pound state title in impressive fashion. Creel now has his sights set on becoming the first wrestler in Hemingford High School history to claim back-to-back state championships, and he also wants to be the first wrestler in school history to finish a season undefeated.

HEMINGFORD – Creel Weber loved wrestling so much as 4-year-old that he would sometimes turn his bedroom into a wrestling room.

“I would spread my blanket out on the floor like it was a wrestling mat,” he said, “and then I would wrestle Mickey Mouse.”
