Cody Brinkman, a freshman at Kimball High School, got involved with mutton busting when he was just 3, and he started bull riding when he was 7. He’s stayed involved in bull riding over the years, developing into one of the top youth bull riders in the world, as proven by his 17th-place finishes each of the last two years in the WCMB World Finals in Mesquite, Texas. Brinkman has even higher goals for his last three years of high school rodeo, and his ultimates dreams are to compete in bull riding in college and then become a professional bull rider.

KIMBALL – Cody Brinkman of Kimball doesn’t remember the first time he competed in mutton busting or even how he got interested in the sport. That’s understandable, though, considering he was only 3 years old the first time he rode a sheep.
“I’m guessing I saw it somewhere, liked it, and then probably begged my mom to let me try it,” he said with a laugh.
His mom, Amanda Bradney, let her son experience the thrill of mutton busting. In fact, during the summer for a three-year stretch, Bradney and her son traveled to Greeley, Colorado, every Friday and Saturday so Brinkman could participate in mutton busting that was part of a rodeo series.
“It was a blast,” said Brinkman, who’s 14 now and is a freshman at Kimball High School. “That was my main thing. That’s what I liked to do.”
