NSPIRING YOUTH IN WYOBRASKA: Scottsbluff teen discovers a passion for flying – and serving in the military

Before Hayden Heine decided to get involved in Scottsbluff High School’s Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program, he didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life. But after excelling in the program the past four years, including recently earning the highest rank in JROTC, the Bearcat senior now knows what he wants to do for a career – serve his country by being a pilot in the Air Force.

SCOTTSBLUFF – Entering Scottsbluff High School, Hayden Heine had no idea what he wanted to do with his life after high school.

That quickly changed his freshman year, though, after he got involved in a new program at his high school called Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps.

“I like structure in my life, and the military runs a pretty tight schedule, so that program got me thinking about going into the military after high school,” he said. “It seemed like something I would enjoy.”
