MITCHELL – Macey Bosard, a senior at Mitchell High School, is Nspire Today!’s Female Athlete of the Month for December. She’s one of the top volleyball players in the region, starting all four years in high school as an outside hitter. She helped the Tigers record a 26-6 record and reach the district final. She was named the Max Preps/AVCA Player of the Week in September, and she was named to the All-Western Conference and All-Western Trails Conference First Teams. In addition, she was named the MVP of the WTC. She broke several school records, including most kills in a game (30 vs. Chase County) and most kills in a season (396). The 5-foot-11 Bosard, who attended Grand Island Northwest High School her freshman, sophomore and junior years before transferring to Mitchell High School for this school year, also competes in basketball and track and field. Bosard grew up in Sidney before moving to Grand Island before her eighth-grade year. Bosard is also a standout in the classroom, holding a 4.0 GPA. She’s involved in National Honor Society and student council. Outside of school, she’s involved with her youth group at First Congregational Church in Torrington. After high school, she plans to play volleyball and major in sports psychology in college. Her parents are Linda and Troy Bosard.

Q: How do you feel like this volleyball season went for Mitchell?

BOSARD: “I know we didn’t make it to state, but I would still call it a very successful season.”

Q: Did Mitchell exceed its expectations this season?

BOSARD: “I think our community was a little surprised that we won this many games. Also, the kids in our school who weren’t part of the volleyball team were like, ‘Wow, your team is having a really good season.’ They were surprised, too. But for the coaches and the players, we felt like we could have a good season. We worked hard to set ourselves up to have a lot of success.”
