TORRINGTON, Wyo. – Sierra Allen, who graduated from Torrington High School in May, is Nspire Today!’s Female Athlete of the Month for July. She was a three-sport standout, competing in volleyball, basketball and track and field. In volleyball, she started three years as a middle hitter and right-side hitter. She also started three years in basketball as a center. She ranked second in Wyoming in rebounds her junior and senior years. She earned all-conference honors her last two years of high school, and she played in this year’s Panhandle Prep All-Star Basketball Game. In track and field, she competed in the shot put and discus and was a three-time state meet qualifier. At the state meet in May, she placed fourth in the shot put and sixth in the discus. She also was the champion in both the shot put and discus at this year’s regional meet. Other activities she was involved in at school were student council, Family Career and Community Leaders of America, and CRT. She graduated with a 3.54 GPA. Outside of school, she’s been involved in 4-H for 12 years. She’s been involved in woodworking and dog showing, and she’s also done exhibits with paintings and pictures. She’s also involved in the youth group at her church, SONrise Church in Torrington. She plans to attend either Chadron State College or Dickinson State University and major in exercise science while competing in track and field. Her parents are Candace Wardell and Shawn Allen.
Q: Describe how your high school athletic career went overall.
ALLEN: “Overall, I think it went very well. I had fun with my friends going on bus trips and playing on different teams. I went through a lot of stuff with my shoulder injury – I had surgery the summer after my junior year. So, that affected me in sports my senior year, especially volleyball.”
