OBITUARY: Betty J. Roberts of Scottsbluff

Betty J. Roberts, 95, of Scottsbluff, passed away on June 19, 2019 at Regional West Medical Center.  Inurnment was held at Fairview Cemetery on Friday, June 21, 2019 with Rev. Charles Richardson officiating.  Online condolences may be left at www.dugankramer.com

Betty was born December 20, 1923 in Alliance, Nebraska to Lewis L. and Francis C. (Hunsaker) Kahler.  She received her early education at Hay Springs and Lakeside, graduating from Mitchell High School with the Class of 1942.

Betty was united in marriage to Howard W. Knudsen on October 24, 1942 in San Diego, California where Howard was stationed in the Navy.  In September of 1943, Jerdie Ann was born.

Later, Betty attended the Charles Beauty School in Denver and became a beauty operator.  On April 9, 1949, Betty married Ken Roberts in Kimball, Nebraska.  The couple made their home in Scottsbluff all their married life, with Betty residing in the same house for 62 years.

Betty had her beauty license for over 50 years and later did child care for 20 years, making lasting friends and loving their children.

Betty was perfect in everything she accomplished from cooking, house cleaning, and yard work.  Betty was the queen of our family.  She had no sense of humor but made up for that by having a lot common sense and love for her family.  She was loved by us all and will truly be missed.

Survivors include her daughter Jerdie H. Hessler of Scottsbluff; her very special granddaughter Susie M. Hessler and her terrific children Keyana E. Wilfred (18) and Seth M. Wilfred (14) all of Mitchell, NE; her grandson Derrick (Sara) E. Hessler and their amazing children Ansley (17), Garrett (16), Evan (13), and Tate (10) all of the Mitchell Valley area.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Hannah Knepper for her help during Betty’s last week.  Also to her caregiver and friend Jody Gilbert for her loving touch.  A special thank you to Marla Marx for being a great and superior neighbor and friend.

Betty was preceded in death by Howard (1980), Kenneth (1981), father (1992), mother (1982), sister Doris L. Mortensen (1992), and grandmother Anna E. Hunsaker (1968).
