Charlotte Rae (Staab) Steinbock was the 12th child born to Walter Seril Staab and Ada Verneeda Staab on January 31, 1941. In a basement house in Morrill, NE. She grew up in the panhandle of Nebraska, until the family moved to Kent, Washington. The family decided to relocate back East when Charlotte was 15 years old, she witnessed the death of her father. With that experience, it affected her more than anyone could really understand back then. They returned to Morrill, Nebraska after her father’s death, where she lived until she married Larry Gentry. One of the jokes in family was, all of the Staab girls married VERY young, and Charlotte continued to follow that tradition. By the time she was 19 years old, she had 3 children.
When her marriage to Larry ended and she married Carroll Steinbock, she once again became a housewife, and also the stepmother of 3 boys. So, on visitation weekends, the house was full with 6 kids. Charlotte and Carroll returned to Morrill, Nebraska in 1975 where she became the second in command at their blacksmith business in Morrill, as well as her working for H&R Block, Lockwood and John R. Jirdon as their bookkeepers. In 1988, she and Carroll sold the Welding and Smithing business and opened a new venture called, Carroll’s Bar in Mitchell until Carroll’s health declined rapidly, and they sold that business.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her father, Walter; mother, Ada; brothers; Floyd, Billie Rex, Benny, Maurice, Ernie and all of their spouses; sisters; Elizabeth (Sis), Eileen, Aldean, Bernice, Marilyn and all of their spouses; husband, Carroll; daughter, Vicki Gentry-Stagg; stepsons, Craig and Michael; granddaughter, Samantha; as well as 20 nieces and nephews.
She is survived by sister, Melba Stager; special friend, Jim T. Fields; daughter, Valaria Genty-Fernandez; her 3 children; 10 grandchildren; and 1 & 1/2 great-grandchildren; son, Larry; his 4 children and 2 grandchildren; daughter, Raelynn (Brandyn); their 3 children; step-son, Scott (Sheila); his niece, Michelle; brothers-in-law, Lance (Mary), Brent (Shirley), and Sheldon; numerous nieces and nephews; and so many friends, too numerous to mention.
It is hard to say goodbye to someone who has meant so much to so many, but, today, we only saying farewell for now, rest now, and enjoy what the new eternal chapter will bring.
