Eileen Ellen (Volz) Kizzire, 85, of Gering, went to her heavenly home on May 19, 2021. Her memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 24, 2021, at Central Church of Christ in Gering with Pastor Lyle Hinebauch and Pastor Herb Rainey officiating. Services will be livestreamed at http://bit.ly/eileenkizzirememorial. Inurnment will follow in the West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Eileen was born on March 14, 1936, in Kaw City, OK to Ervin and Ellen (Darbe) Volz. She graduated in 1954 from Labette County High School in Altamont, KS. She attended Ozark Bible College in Joplin, MO where she met Harold Doss Kizzire, Sr. and they were married August 22, 1958. They had four children together, Harold Doss, Jr, Tammy, Jerry, and Ellen. The family settled in Gering, NE in 1964.
Eileen was a fabulous cook and baker. She worked as a cook in the Gering Public Schools, Platte Valley Bible College, Belair, and Western Nebraska Veterans Home. She retired from the latter in 2001. After retiring, she was a substitute cook for Gering Senior Center until she became a foster grandparent for the Gering Head Start in 2009. She was a foster grandparent for 10 years.
Eileen was an active member at Central Church of Christ in Gering. She loved Christ and everyone she ever met. She loved taking care of people and gave the best advice.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, John and Lowell Volz.
Eileen is survived by her brothers, Robert (Patty) Volz of Diamond, MO, and Richard (Marie) Volz of South Coffeyville, OK; sister, Lena Ann Volz of Spokane, WA; children, Doss (Rose) Kizzire of Scottsbluff, NE, Tammy (Clem) Boehm of Olathe, KS, Jerry (Natalie) Kizzire of Carbondale, IL, and Ellen (Shaun) Phelps of Fountain, CO; her grandchildren, Melissa Coats of Scottsbluff, NE, Amber Kizzire of Gering, NE, Dustin (Sam) Kizzire of Osmond, NE, David (Jennifer) Dunagan of Gove, KS, Andrew (Sadie) Gardner of Olathe, KS, Rebecca (Andy) Willis of Aubrey, TX, Koby (Jessica) Kizzire of Oxford, CT, Kameron (Kelsie) Kizzire of Columbia, IL, Katie (Darren) Garbuz of Edwardsville, IL, Elizabeth Phelps of Fountain, CO, and Nathan (Kimi) Phelps of Jacksonville, NC; 28 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
