Gene was born Nov. 17, 1932, into the large family of Alex and Mary (Hoff) Becker. He was born in Scottsbluff and attended the duration of his school years in Lake Alice.
Gene met Elizabeth “Betty” Schanaman through friends and the two were married on January 5, 1951. A year later they welcomed their first child, Jeanette, soon to be followed by her sister, Sandy, and brother, Kelly.
The family farmed and fed cattle together in the Lake Alice area and much of the family continues to do so today. Gene and Betty worked joyfully together farming, irrigating, and driving truck with their children and grandchildren.
Gene loved to have large family gatherings and would always be the last to eat so he could see everyone together. He loved to hunt and fish for walleye and took as many family members along as possible, especially his grandkids. He was an avid bowler and softball player and always enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
He is survived by his children, Jeanette (Jim) Dietrich, Sandy (Rodney) Schneider and Kelly (Kim) Becker; grandchildren, Aaron (Dori) Dietrich, Ryan (Genya) Dietrich, Adam (Lisa) Dietrich, Chad (Melissa) Schneider, Julie (Paul) Siebke, Jeremy (Kristie) Becker and Amanda (Chad) Libsack; Devon Merrigan, Stephanie Anderson (Jared), Samantha Preble (Zack), Shalee Aulick (Jake), 26 great-grandchildren and family friend, Marilyn Einfalt.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty, parents; and eight sisters and brothers.
