Floyd Schwartzkopf of Mitchell Valley

Floyd Schwartzkopf, 92, of Mitchell Valley went to his heavenly home Friday, April 29, 2022 surrounded by his family.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 10:30 am at Federated Church in Mitchell, NE, with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. Interment at Mitchell City Cemetery will follow the service.  Visitation will be held at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 from 4-7 pm.  Memorials can be made to the family, which will be designated at a later time.  Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com.

Floyd was born on October 12, 1929 in Torrington, Wyoming to Jake and Anna (Bertram) Schwartzkopf.  After Floyd’s Dad passed, at an early age, in July, 1945, Anna remarried Jake Gompert in July, 1948, giving Floyd and his siblings a step-dad. 

He grew up in Dutch Flats North of Mitchell and received his early education at Fairview 34.  He was a farmer and worked with his brothers in the Dutch Flats area.  

Floyd was united in marriage to Betty Henkel on February 22, 1948 at Federated Church by Rev. Lawrence Dry.  They moved to the south side of Mitchell Valley while raising their four children:  Peggy, Janice, Tim, and Brenda.  After retiring from farming, he continued helping his son, Tim, on the farm.

During Floyd’s farming career, he was honored many years as one of the highest sugar beet top producers.

He was the best storyteller & jokester, loved spoiling his family, and visiting with people.  He didn’t know a stranger.  He dearly loved his family and attended as many activities as possible.

Floyd is survived by his loving family.  Children Peggy (Frank) Brown of Gering, Janice (Ron) Sell of Scottsbluff, Tim (Lori) Schwartzkopf of Mitchell, and Brenda (Jerry) Nortness of Morrill.  Grandchildren Jennifer (Brent) Fulk, Greg (Halee) Brown, Broc (Danielle) Brown, Tiffany (Sean) Hagan, Joshua (Heidi) Sell, Tracey (Vernon) Jahn, Nathan Schwartzkopf, Candace (Joey) Muhr, April Nortness, and Morgan Nortness.  Great Grandchildren Kaylee & Kelsi Fulk, Derrick Brown, Jacelyn, Joel, Brett, & Ryker Brown, Owen & Dylan Hagan, Brittli (Derek) Wallace & Braxton Sell, Bridget (Kyler) Brunz & brother Josh, Jaiden & Cadence Jahn, Kira Schwartzkopf, Kaylynn & Kaysen Muhr, and Bryxton & Huxley.  Great-Great Granddaughter Bristol Brunz.  Sister Virginia Getts.  Brother-in law Marvin (Sandee) Henkel. Sister-in-law Marlene Henkel.  And multiple cousins, nieces, and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents, Jake & Anna Schwartzkopf; Step-dad, Jake Gompert; brothers, Jake Jr. (Rose) Schwartzkopf and Albert (Elsie) Schwartzkopf; sister, Betty (Bob) Schwindt; brothers-in-law, Sonny (Mildred) Henkel, Bob Henkel, Dick Henkel, and Max Getts; granddaughters, Ashley Nortness & Ronetta Sell; and great-granddaughter Bailee Jo Muhr.
