Harry Schmidt of Scottsbluff

Harry Schmidt, 94 of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, on Sunday, February 13, 2022.

He was born December 22, 1927 in Scottsbluff to Jacob and Emilie Schmidt. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1945, and began working for Greenwalts Hatchery.  Following employment with Greenwalts he began farming on his own. Prior to being drafted into the Army in 1950, he was granted permission to defer the draft until the completion of harvest. He went to basic training in Camp Cooke Haugen, Japan before serving in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as Sergeant in 1952 and returned to work with his father and brothers on the farm in Scottsbluff.

Harry married Iris White in 1961. By this time he was farming on his own and in the following years, thoroughly enjoyed raising three children: Kelle, Todd and Jason. For many years he had the pleasure of his sons help in the farming operation. He was engaged in farming until retiring in 1992. Following retirement, he enjoyed playing games of snooker with his sons at the home, entertaining and spending time with all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

During his life, Harry was a 4-H leader, served on the boards of the ASCS office, and the Enterprise Irrigation District, and was a life-time member of the V.F.W.  He attended Valley Bible Church for many years, and was very active in their functions.

His funeral service will be held Friday, February 18, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Zion Evangelical Church with Pastor Jason Schmidt and Todd Schmidt officiating. Services will be live streamed through Zion Evangelical Church website.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Valley Bible Church.  Online condolences may be left at www.dugankramer.com.

Harry is survived by his wife Iris; children Kelle, Todd (Nancy) and Jason (Robin); eleven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jacob and Emilie, brothers Ed, Wally, Reiny, Clarence and sister Donna Leever.
