OBITUARY: Janice Jeanette (Kaufman) Laeger of Bayard

Janice Jeanette (Kaufman) Laeger, 83 of Bayard, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Chimney Rock Villa.

Janice Laeger was born in March of 1938, south of Melbeta on the Johns farm. She attended Hope School and Minatare High School where she graduated in 1956. She was married May of 1956, to her husband Melvin of 65 years.

Janice was actively involved in 4-H and honorary member of the Bayard FFA Chapter. She was a member of Dist. 50 Extension Chimney Rock Club and a longtime member of the Red Willow Extension Club. She was employed by Great Western Sugar Company for 26 years. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, quilting, antiquing and playing cards.

Janice is survived by her husband Melvin Laeger; five daughters and spouses: Kimberly (Mitchell) Humphrey, Kathy Laeger, Karen (Ty) King, Kristi (Ralph) Lawler, and Kande (Jeff) Laeger; grandchildren: Korey McMurtry, Tyler (Brittany) Humphrey, Amber (Mike) Timme, Robert King, Brandt (Jessica) Humphrey, Darren Lawler, Morgan King and Jeremy Lawler; great grandchildren Kaliber King and Axel Humphrey; siblings Loretta (Don) Roth, Joyce Brown, Steve Kaufman, Sandra Howard and George Kaufman; sisters-in-law Alvera Brening and Colleen Laeger and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents George and Kathrine Kaufman, siblings Byron and Milton Kaufman, Elnora Brown and grandson Keith McMurtry.

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Church of Christ in Bayard with Pastor Bill Ferrero officiating.  Interment will follow at Bayard Cemetery.  A viewing will be Tuesday at the church from 4-6 p.m.
