Jerry Lee Aulick, 89, passed away at home, October 17, 2021 with his daughter by his side. A celebration of his life, with military honors, will take place on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 1 pm at Calvary Memorial Church in Gering, NE with Pastor, Gary Hashley officiating. Jerry loved his desserts, so please join us for cake and pie after the service. Burial will take place at East Lawn Cemetery in Minatare, NE later in the afternoon. Jerry was born July 30, 1932 in Minatare, NE to Oswald Louis “Louie” Aulick Jr. and Ruth Fulton Johnson Aulick. Jerry attended school in Minatare. At age 13, Jerry built and raced a car in the Soap Box Derby held at the Scottsbluff National Monument. He won first place and received a medal for the Best Built Car. Jerry then proceeded to Akron, OH to compete in the National Soap Box Derby where he won 5th place.
Later on, the Aulicks moved to a beautiful farm located 1 mile North West of Minatare. Jerry’s father purchased 35 head of dairy cattle and put him in charge of the operation.
In 1952, during the Korean War, Jerry was drafted into the Army. He scored high on exams and was able to by-pass infantry training. He was later deployed to Okinawa. Half way across the Pacific Ocean, the war ended. Jerry served 1 ½ years in Okinawa as a communications specialist.
Upon returning home, the dairy cattle had been sold, so Jerry decided to use his skills attained in the army and pursued radio and electrical repairs.
In 1962, Jerry married the love of his life, Millie (White) and bought a home in Gering, NE. In 1963 their son, Robin, was born and in 1966 their daughter, Sherri, was born. Jerry was employed at Nebraska Machinery for 9 years. Millie sensed that he needed a change and encouraged him to start his own business and Jerry’s Electric was established. It was a successful business for many years.
Jerry and Millie enjoyed their retirement years traveling and just spending time with their granddaughters. Jerry enjoyed several hobbies including metal casting, lathe projects, cement casting, and woodworking.
Jerry will be greatly missed by his daughter Sherri (Darwin) Carlson of Scottsbluff, NE, granddaughter Kirstyn Carlson of Gering, NE, granddaughter Kylie Carlson of Aurora, CO, cousins Bonnie Loy and Jody (John) Chicoine of FL, nephew Steve Weller (Donna) of WY, niece Linda Miller of TX, niece Lanna (Don) Williams of FL. and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife Millie of 56 years, his son Robin L. Aulick, grandparents and parents, Harry Aulick, Kathryn Weller, Joseph Weller, James Loy, Mike Loy, and James Miller.
