John H. Yost, age 87, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away May 2nd at Regional West Medical Center. John was born on February 21, 1934, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Daniel S. Yost and Marie (Pauley) Yost. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School. John married Louise Carlson Taylor on March 17, 1974, at First Baptist Church and made their home in Scottsbluff. They filled their life with love and laughter in their 47 years together.
When he was young, John showed dairy cattle in 4H and was a member of FFA. He worked as a farmer for most of his life, farming with his Dad early on and then taking over the family farm. After he retired from farming, John drove a route for Educational Service Unit 13 delivering educational materials to rural schools, where he often was met with treats and conversation from teachers and staff.
Throughout his life, John took joy in the small things. He was quiet, stoic, a good listener and had a gentle nature. On most days, you would find him tooling around the farm fixing broken-down tractors or pulling apart old buildings. John loved spending time with his kids and grandkids, attending all of their activities, watching Westerns (preferably Audie Murphy) together, and sharing mini candy bars. He made up his own sayings (“How do?”) and never used the right names for appliances or pets. All who knew him would describe John as ornery and fun in moments big and small.
Survivors include his wife Louise Yost of Scottsbluff; sister Dee McDaniel of Gering; daughters Susan Bosche of Oregon and Amber (Russell) Epp of Wisconsin; four grandchildren: Aubrey Bosche and Austin Bosche of Scottsbluff, Hudson Epp and Henning Epp of Wisconsin; nieces and nephews: Brent (Cathy) McDaniel of Mitchell; Milene (Rick) Paulus of Illinois; Eric (Priscilla) Brush of Iowa; Scott (Nicole) Brush of Minnesota; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, grandnewphews/nieces, friends, and loved ones.
