John R. Carlson, 79, of Scottsbluff, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at The Residency Care Center in Scottsbluff. His funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at Bridgman Funeral Home in Scottsbluff with Pastor Rick Reisig officiating. The family suggests casual attire. Interment will follow in the East Lawn Cemetery at Minatare. Military honors will be provided by the Nebraska Army National Guard and American Legion Post No. 36. John Raymond Carlson was born July 13, 1941, to Carl and Edith (Hague) Carlson at the Kimball County Hospital in Kimball, Nebraska. He grew up in Banner County and attended school at Harrisburg. Following graduation, he worked on numerous ranches. In 1964, he was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War for two years. In 1966, he married Sharon York and they were happily married for 55 years.
He worked for Scotts Bluff County for 47 years running earth movers until they quit using them. He then dozed until he became foreman in 1997. He served as foreman for 18 years before his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Carlson; daughter, Dawn (Miles) Lemley of Morrill; grandsons, Dawson Jacobs, and Hunter Lemley; granddaughters, Kenzie (Christopher) Buskirk, and Ashlee Lemley; great-granddaughter, Bralynn Lemley; sister, Elsie Stone of Wellman, Texas; sister-in-law, Cindy Mayor of Denver, Colorado; nieces, Jennifer (David) Zuniga, and Becky (Steve) Maddin; nephews, Ryan Losey, and Bryan Carlson; two great-nephews, Isaiah Zuniga, and Tyler Losey; and a great-niece, Sydney Losey.
John was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
