OBITUARY: Jose ‘Joe’ Luis Flores, formerly of Scottsbluff

Jose “Joe” Luis Flores, 60, of Lubbock, Texas and formerly of Scottsbluff, Nebraska went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 16, 2021. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Joseph Thambi and Pastor Ruben Flores officiating.  Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.dugankramer.com for the Flores Family.  

Jose Luis was born November 19, 1961 in Crystal City, TX to Guadalupe and Dora (Mata) Flores. He attended Crystal City High School and was an outstanding football player for the Javelinas, graduating in 1981. He later attended Texas Junior College in Criminal Justice. He transferred to the University of Texas Pan Am in Edinburg, Texas where he was pursuing his bachelor’s in social services.  After college, Joe became a Police Officer for the Crystal City Police Department. After moving to Scottsbluff Joe received his Certified Nurses Aid certificate and worked at Regional West Medical Center for 25 years where his passion was taking care of people. After leaving RWMC he began his career at the Lubbock State Supported Living Center.

He Married Lupe Tarin and to this union he had two children (Cassandra and Joaquin and step-son Jose). He later married Delores Garcia October 25, 2008 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska and to this union he had three step-children (Francisco, Marcelino, and Aaron). 

Joe loved and enjoyed being with his family and making people laugh.  He enjoyed boxing and coaching boxing when his kids were involved. He loved wrestling, dancing to Tejano music, and was a big Dallas Cowboys and Nebraska football fan.  Joe had a kind soul and cared about everyone. 

Joe is survived by his wife, Delores Flores; his parents: Guadalupe & Dora Flores; 6 children: Jose (Ashley), Cassandra, Joaquin,  Francisco (Jessalyn), Marcelino, and Aaron;  16 grandchildren: Zachariah, Noel, Adrian, Ezekial, Isaiah, Arie,  Eleah, Amias, Lennox, Taryn Jeremy, Mia Maelvy, Draedan, Katalina, Francisco, Santiago and Tayden; his siblings:  Henry (Sylvia) Flores from Scottsbluff, Lupe Flores, Jr from Scottsbluff, Ruben (Elia) Flores from Scottsbluff, Mary (Andy) Palomo from San Antonio, TX, David (Sonia) Flores from Scottsbluff, Andrew (Bertha) Flores from Scottsbluff, and Timothy Flores from San Antonio; several nieces and nephews and his best friend Ricky Meza who was alongside Joe’s journey through high school and college years. 

Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents Bruno and Rita Mata, Jose Guadalupe, and Leonor Flores, sister Lupita Flores, brother Victor Flores, and sister-in-law Deborah Dewitt-Flores.
