OBITUARY: Larry L. Riffel, formerly of Bayard

Larry L. Riffel, 84, formerly of Bayard, died Saturday, November 13, 2021 at home.  A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 19, 2021 at Bayard Cemetery with Pastor Jon Simpson officiating.  The Nebraska Army National Guard will provide military honors.  Cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing.  The service will be livestreamed and recorded to Larry’s obituary page at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com.  Memorials may be made to the Panhandle Humane Society. 

Larry was born May 8, 1937 in Sedgwick, Kansas to George and Alice (Thorne) Riffel.  The family moved to California when he was young and he graduated from Lynwood High School in Lynwood, California.  He served in the Army from 1960 to 1963 and was stationed in Korea.  He then went to Fitzsimmons Military Hospital in Denver.  It was there where he met Audrey Mae Noland and they married on March 14, 1964 in Lynwood. 

The family moved to Scottsbluff in 1973.  Larry retired from Burlington Northern Railroad after twenty years.  He enjoyed bowling, sports and spending time with family. 

Survivors include his children, Lester (Lori) Riffel, Lonnie (Becky) Lane, Lance (Beth) Riffel, Sherrie (Cliff) Miller and Jon (Lori) Riffel; numerous grandchildren; along with extended family members and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Audrey; granddaughter, Brittany Marie Baldwin; and grandson, Kenneth Riffel.
