Margaret Ann Pickering, 97 died Tuesday evening January 28, 2020 at Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard, Nebraska.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, February 4, at 10:00 a.m. at St Agnes Catholic Church in Scottsbluff with Fr. Vince Parsons officiating. Interment at Fairview Cemetery. Avisitation will be Monday at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel from 1:00 pm to7:00 pm with a rosary vigil at 7:00 pm at the chapel. Reflections on Margaret Ann’s life will be shared at this time. Margaret Ann (Sullivan) Pickering was born January 11, 1923 in Columbus, Nebraska to John and Margaret (Kaus) Sullivan. She lived in Kearney and Norfolk before moving to Scottsbluff with her family in 1939. Margaret Ann graduated from Scottsbluff High School. During World War II, she supported the war effort at Buckley Air Field near Denver. Margaret Ann married Jim Pickering, Jr (of Scottsbluff) January 22, 1946 in Denver. She joined him at the family farm north of Scottsbluff where they raised four boys.
She shared her positive outlook through humor, compassion and encouragement, preparing countless “delicious, nutritious” meals for her hunger farm family, and serving four generations at her loving table. Her raspberry pies and jellies are legendary. She lived at the farm with son Jeff until the final two years of her life.
Margaret Ann served on the local election board for over 20 years. Her Catholic faith played a central role in her life. She was charter member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St Jude 2053, and a contributing member of St Agnes Altar Society. She supported child education through St. Agnes School, which all her children and one grandchild attended.
Margaret Ann is survived by her four sons Bill (Debbie) of Evergreen, CO, Jeff of Scottsbluff, Brad (Cori) of Hurst, TX and Greg of San Juan Capistrano, CA; grandchildren Robert of Denver, Gary (Maria) of Bellevue, WA and Katie (Ken) Muller of Richland, WA, step grandsons Michael (Meredith) of Boerne, TX, Matthew (Stacy) of Burleson, TX, Mark (Lindsey) of Tolar, TX, Malachi (Candace) of Oklahoma City, OK; great grandchildren Taylor Pickering, Jordon Muller, Aiden Pickering, Mason Pickering and Makenna Muller and 12 great step children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Arline, Madeline and Dorothy and brother Jack.
