OBITUARY: Melvin Ray Loseke of Gering

Melvin Ray Loseke, age 81, of Gering, passed away on January 6, 2021.  His funeral service will be livestreamed on the church’s facebook page and website www.firstumcsb.com/live  at 2 PM on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Craig Collins officiating.  Social distancing mandates will be followed and masks are required.  Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Scottsbluff.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorials may be given to the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation. https://www.diabetesresearch.org/Give.  Online condolences may be left at www.geringchapel.com

Melvin was born February 18, 1939 in Bridgeport, Nebraska to Walter and Emma (Stohr) Loseke.  He attended the University of Nebraska, where he received a degree in Civil Engineering. Later he attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX where he received an MBA.

He met his wife Joann at a Walther League meeting at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff.  They were married at Faith Lutheran Church in Gering on July 2, 1963, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary there in 2013

. Their daughter Michelle was born during Melvin’s final exams at the University of Nebraska. They also served as foster parents for over a dozen children through Lutheran Social Services in Oklahoma City and Hope Cottage in Dallas, TX. 

Melvin started an engineering software development business in Texas and ran it for twenty years, after which he trained and worked as a lay minister. He moved back to the Scottsbluff area in 2003.

Melvin is survived by his daughter Michelle, his brother Myron, and sister-in-law Judy Pedersen.  

He was preceded in death by his wife Joann (Pedersen) Loseke, parents Walter and Emma (Stohr) Loseke, and siblings Vernon and Rosetta.
