Reiner was born March 14, 1948 in Hof, Germany and lived there until moving to the United States when he was 11 years old. He and his parents, Floyd and Rosa (Schrenk) Myers, moved to a ranch south of Ainsworth, NE. Floyd’s parents met Ike and Rosa at the Omaha airport for the first time. They were able to communicate even though Rosa and Ike didn’t speak much English at the time.
After graduation, Ike was drafted into the Army. He served from February 8, 1968 until his honorable discharge on September 17, 1969 as he had received an early out. During his tour, he spent most of his time in Vietnam. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Occupation Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. When he returned home he married Marcy A. Ruegsegger on December 28, 1969.
In November of 1971, they welcomed their first child, a girl, Kristy Jean. She was a twilight to her dad’s eye. She would always wait at the door for her dad to come home. Then in March of 1975, they were blessed with a son, Kory Paul, who he could groom to become as avid hunter and fisherman as he was.
Ike worked and went to many schools around Nebraska. The last place he worked was at 21st Century Equipment in Bridgeport where he received his Master Mechanic Certification.
In recent years, Ike did woodworking, processed wild game, and smoked meats and cheese. He enjoyed teaching others about woodworking and wild game processing. He and his protégés would spend countless hours in his Man Cave telling stories and sharing friendships over a cold drink. Ike was a lifetime member of VFW in Imperial.
Ike is survived by his wife of 51 years Marcy; daughter Kristy (Dan) Gartner of Dalton, NE; son Kory (Bryanne) Myers of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren: James (Maria) Hogsett of Bridgeport, Justin Hogsett of Alliance, Amber Hogsett (fiancé TJ Christensen) of Bridgeport, Tiffany Hogsett of Alliance, and Aryanna Myers of Lincoln; great-grandchildren: Christopher Hogsett, Billy Dobler, McKenzie Hogsett, Jaycen Hogsett, Henry Dobler, and Sayler Hogsett; a very special friend of Ike and Marcy’s Stacy Mau of Bayard; furbabies Kandi and Peanut; and many special cousins, friends, and extended family members.
Ike was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Rosa Myers, in-laws Lowell and Lola Ruegsegger, and grandson Kaleb Joseph Myers.
