Reuben R. Chacon, 89, of Bayard, passed away Thursday, June 3, 2021, at his home. His Rosary will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 11, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bayard followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with Father Stephen Deaver officiating. Interment will be in the Bayard Cemetery with military honors provide by the Nebraska Army National Guard and Chimney Rock V.F.W. Post No. 9915. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Reuben Richard Chacon was born May 18, 1932, at El Paso, Texas. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Frances Sanchez on September 29, 1956, in Bayard, NE. Reuben had his own auto body repair business in Bayard, NE for a number of years. He was also a member of the Bayard Jaycees, Bayard American Legion and Bayard Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also volunteered time with the Boy Scouts.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Frances Chacon of Bayard, NE and children Reuben Chacon Jr. of Denver, CO, James (Elizabeth) Chacon of Broomfield, CO, Lillian (Mike) O’Neill of Lincoln, NE, and Aileen (Jeff) Nun of Lincoln, NE. There are 7 grandchildren: Brittany Chacon and Michael Chacon of Broomfield, CO; Allison (Brandon) Hajek of Omaha, NE and Brian O’Neill of Omaha, NE; Terra Nun, Race Nun and Zach Nun of Lincoln, NE; and 3 great-granddaughters: Rylee Hajek, Peyton Hajek and Morgan Hajek of Omaha, NE. He is also survived by half-brothers: Ernie Vargas of Pueblo, CO and Manuel Vargas of Pueblo, CO; and two half-sisters: Ernestine Camarillo of Pueblo, CO and Irene Hays of Pueblo, CO.
Reuben was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister, and one half-brother.
