Ron was born April 10, 1936 at Scottsbluff to Vic and Leona Kuncl. He attended school in Morrill and graduated from Morrill High School in 1954. He married Ann Ost on May 5, 1957. They had 2 children—Dean, and Annette who married Tony Dutenhoffer.
Ron entered the US Air Force in 1958 and served until he retired in 1978. He was stationed at Lackland AFB in Texas, Chanute AFB in Illinois, Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota, Keesler AFB in Mississippi, Incerlik AFB in Turkey, Little Rock AFB in Arkansas, Forbes AFB in Kansas, Mt. Limbara, Sardinia, Italy, Westover AFB in Massachusetts, and Anderson AFB on Guam.
After retirement from the Air Force, Ron drove a gas truck for Groskopf oil in Morrill.
Ron was active in the Morrill Community Development Group for many years. Among other things, he started a recycling program in Morrill, designated Morrill as a Tree City USA town, planted trees at the Horse Creek Treaty site, was instrumental in establishing the Jean Steen Veteran’s Park, and was actively interested in promoting the village of Morrill as a vital part of western Nebraska. He was a wealth of information for anyone inquiring about this area.
Ron was a lifetime auto enthusiast, being a member of the National Street Rod Association for decades. He built street rods and drove them extensively to car meets around the whole United States. For twenty years, he enjoyed being in charge of the car show at Morrill’s annual celebration.
He was a fun and friendly guy and will be greatly missed.
