Sharon was born on July 3, 1941 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Earl and Doris (Stratton) Smith. She grew up on the family farm near Lake Alice with her three younger sisters, Earlynn, Anita, and Adrian. She attended Lake Alice School through 8th grade and then graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1959. Sharon loved being around and playing sports while growing up. She continued that passion coaching the Lindsay Bubblers fastpitch softball team and teaching physical education at Scottsbluff Public Schools as a young adult. Her passion for watching kids grow and play never stopped and she enjoyed many years as her children’s and grandchildren’s loving fan!
Sharon married Roger Abner in July of 1961. They had two children Bryan and Sheri. Sharon always worked outside the home, but she loved being their Mom more than anything. The family lived in Gering where Bryan and Sheri graduated from Gering High School so Sharon was frequently seen at ballparks, gyms, and tracks in the area. Sharon was extremely passionate and kind to all people, she loved Jesus, had a place in her heart for those less fortunate and a fierce love for all of her family and the friends they brought home to her. Sharon’s grandchildren and now great grandchildren were always on her mind. There was never a conversation with Sharon that did not include the exploits and adventures of all her favorite kids!
Sharon is survived by her children Bryan (Mikaela) Abner of Atkinson, NE, and Sheri (Jay) Ehler of Sidney, NE; sisters Earlynn Lawrence of Alliance, NE and Anita (Gary) Rein of Chadron, NE; 7 grandchildren whom Sharon loved and enjoyed: Bowdy (Kassie) Ehler, Paxton Ehler, Alli Jay Ehler, Zane (Jen) Abner, Addie (Bryce) Rossman, Sierra Hansen, and Garrison Hansen; 8 great grandchildren Finlea, Graham, and Rhett Ehler, Haven, Kline, and McCoy Abner, and Slate and Beckett Rossman.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Doris Smith and her youngest sister Adrienne Durnal.
