‘Our greatest mission is to give these people hope’

Joyce Willeke of Torrington is in her 10th year serving as a volunteer for a prison ministry at Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution. She goes to the prison in Torrington at least a couple times a week to do Catholic Bible studies and also to help with music responsibilities at Mass with prisoners who want to attend. She says she’s thrilled to help teach prisoners more about God and also to help them become better citizens.

TORRINGTON, Wyo. – At least a couple times a week, Joyce Willeke of Torrington will pack a bag with Bibles, a few rosaries, and some pamphlets and other Bible study materials.

She uses those items to help people learn more about Christ – at the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution in Torrington.

“It’s a wonderful ministry, and I’ve been blessed to be able to do it,” she said.

Willeke, who’s lived in Torrington for 44 years, attends St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Torrington. She volunteered to help with her church’s prison ministry 10 years ago – right when the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution opened.
