PRIDE IN AG: Banner County couple says ‘This is the only life we ever wanted’

Dan and Linda Barrett both grew up on farms in Banner County, and when they got married in 1972, they knew they wanted to continue living and working on a farm. They’ve spent the last 49 years doing just that on the same farm Dan grew up on. Although they say every year they get to farm is special, this year marks an extra special year for them and for everyone else in the Barrett family. That’s because it’s the 100th anniversary of the farm being in the Barrett family.

HARRISBURG – Before Dan and Linda Barrett got married in 1972, they never had any deep conversations about what they would do for a living after they got married.

It was pretty much assumed by both of them that they would live their lives together in Banner County as full-time farmers.

“I think she just knew what direction I was headed in, and I knew she liked that kind of lifestyle as well,” Dan said. “I don’t think I even asked her what she wanted to do.”
