BAYARD – Amanda Schnell-Kildow, a 56-year-old mom and ranch and farm manager, is no stranger to the world of hard work. From adolescence, she had big aspirations and dreams to make something of her life.
At a very young age, she lost her mom, and as she grew up, she helped her dad take care of her siblings and helped out with the farm and ranch. Being the oldest, Amanda had intentions of going to college, and it wasn’t until her dad told her “no” that she decided she would earn her own way to a college education.
“I grew up in Alliance, and after graduating from Alliance High School, I ended up joining the Army from 1986 to 1988 to pursue my post-secondary education,” said Amanda. “ I decided to set out and reach my dreams with the help of the military. When I was in the military, I also attended Pierce College in Washington state and got an associate’s degree in technology. When I got out of the Army, I went to work for a bank in Alliance.”
