Ronald Myers of Gering has been named Nspire Today!’s Hometown Hero of the Week, sponsored by Schank Roofing in Scottsbluff.
Myers served in the United States military during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1966. He said he was a gunner on a helicopter for three months before serving in the infantry in the jungle for 13 months.
“I was very proud to serve the country,” he said. “Serving is one of the best things I’ve ever done.”
Myers, 77, has lived in Gering for about a year. Before that, he lived in Broadwater for a little over 60 years.
He said he worked for the State of Nebraska for about nine years before spending a number of years working on farms in the area. He graduated from Broadwater High School in 1962.
As for his hobbies and interests, Ronald said he likes riding horses and doing other outdoor activities. He also likes spending time with his family.
“I’m very proud of my family,” he said.
