SCOTTSBLUFF – Avery Fox, a senior at Scottsbluff High School, is Nspire Today!’s Female Athlete of the Month for December, sponsored by Kristy Culek Agency, LLC-American Family Insurance. Fox is one of the top softball players in western Nebraska as a pitcher, infielder, outfielder and hitter. She was named to the Class B All-State Second Team, and she was also named to the All-Western Conference team. In addition to excelling in softball for the Bearcats, she was also a standout during her six years on the Twisters’ fast-pitch traveling softball team. She’s currently in her second year playing for the Colorado Rockettes, an elite traveling team based out of Thornton, Colorado. Fox is also a solid basketball player. She started at point guard/shooting guard for Torrington High School last year. Fox, who transferred to Scottsbluff this year from Torrington, also excels in the classroom. She currently has a 3.8 GPA. Outside of school, she’s part of the youth group at St. Rose of Lima Church in Torrington. After she graduates from high school, she plans to go to school and play softball at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado. She wants to pursue a degree in medicine. Her parents are Daniel and Theresa Fox. For being named an athlete of the month, Avery will receive a gift card for a free drink at Scooter’s Coffee.
Q: Talk about how your senior year of softball went overall?
FOX: “I thought it went pretty well. We made so much improvement as a team. Getting to the district final game was a big accomplishment for everybody.” Editor’s note: Scottsbluff finished the season with a 28-9 record.
Q: How did this season go for you individually?
FOX: “It went really well. I had some personal success with pitching and batting, and I enjoyed getting different looks playing in the outfield.”
