SCOTTSBLUFF – As a junior at Scottsbluff High School, Daylon Adams has reached the pinnacle of Nebraska high school wrestling. In a thrilling, hard-fought state championship match in Omaha, Adams battled back from early danger, stayed composed under pressure, and secured a pin to claim his first state title. Known for his calm demeanor, year-round work ethic, and a “why” rooted in family, Adams, who is Nspire Today!’s Male Athlete of the Month for March, reflects on the journey that led him to the top — and the mindset that’s already driving him toward next season.
Q: First of all, congratulations. What was going through your mind the moment the final match ended?
ADAMS: “It was kind of unbelievable. I’ve said this plenty of times to my coaches—when I heard the pin, I didn’t even think it was for me. I was just hoping that was for me. When I got off of him, I was hoping it was the end of the match.”
Q: Take me back to when your hand was raised as a state champion. What did that feel like?
ADAMS: “It was just—like I’ve worked my whole life toward it. You can’t even put it into words. You can’t. It’s crazy.”
