Showing kindness at the post office

For Valarie Orozco-Ysac, a 1987 Gering High School graduate, working as the postal clerk at the Gering Post Office is way more than just a job. She looks at it as an opportunity to connect with people, and more importantly, a chance to help make a positive difference in her customers’ lives.

GERING – As the postal clerk at the Gering Post Office, Valarie Orozco-Ysac doesn’t want to just sell you stamps, weigh your packages, or help you with other mailing needs.

She wants to make your day brighter – a lot brighter.

“I want to make their experience here as enjoyable and as meaningful as I can,” she said. “If someone comes in and I sense that they’re having kind of a bad day, I’ll try to cheer them up. Or if they come in happy, I’ll let them know how much I appreciate their happiness because it makes me even happier.”

Orozco-Ysac, 50, has been working for the Gering Post Office for 27 years, and during that time, she’s touched the lives of many area residents – way beyond just helping them with their postal needs.
