SIDNEY – Trever Tarrell, who will be a senior at Sidney High School this fall, has been named Nspire Today!’s Male Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Kristy Culek Agency, LLC-American Family Insurance. He competes in football (cornerback and tight end) and track & field (hurdles). He also participates in Skills USA and Demolay, a youth club. After high school, he wants to attend a tech school for either welding or residential wiring. His parents are Ev and Jana Tarrell.

Q: How would you describe the way your high school athletic career has gone up to this point?

TARRELL: “I would say it’s gone pretty well. I’ve had a lot of fun, and I’ve learned a lot from the coaches. I’ve gotten pretty lucky in that I’ve had some really good coaches.”

Q: What are your goals and hopes for the upcoming football season?

TARRELL: “I’d like to see us work really well together and just keep getting better. We don’t have a lot of size this year, so we’ll do the best we can with what we have.”

Q: How much do you enjoy playing cornerback and tight end?

TARRELL: “I really like tight end, just because my brother used to be a tight end. It’s kind of cool being the little brother following in your big brother’s footsteps. Also, cornerback is a lot of fun.”

Q: Which side – offense or defense – do you like better?

TARRELL: “I would say defense because I like to hit. I feel like you get to see more action on that side.”

Q: I know it’s looking ahead, but have you already starting thinking about some goals for your last track and field season?

TARRELL: “I’d definitely like to make it to state. My big goal is to make it to state in both hurdles events.”

Q: What is your favorite non-sports activity?

TARRELL: “I really like my welding class. That’s a lot of fun.”

Q: How did you get interested in welding?

TARRELL: “A buddy of mine started doing it, and I started working on a ranch when I was 12. I liked it, so I started doing it more often.”

Q: How much have you enjoyed growing up in the Sidney community?

TARRELL: “It’s a lot of fun. Sidney is a small town, but it’s big enough that there’s a lot of activities still going on.”

Q: Outside of your school activities, what do you like to do for fun?

TARRELL: “I like to hunt and fish a lot.”

Q: What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

TARRELL: “Country music.”

Q: Favorite TV show?

TARRELL: “Mountain Men.”

Q: What is your favorite local restaurant?

TARRELL: “The Silver Dollar. I like their cheeseburgers.”

Q: Who do you think is one of the kindest students at Sidney High School?

TARRELL: “Morgan Jaggers. She’s not the kind of person who’s going to judge you. To her, it doesn’t matter whether you have a lot of money or not, or whether you’re really athletic or not. If you want to be friends with her, she’s more than willing to be friends with you and help you with whatever you need.”

Q: Name one person who you feel is a big difference-maker in the Sidney community.

TARRELL: “I would say Curtis Hofrock. He runs the community center in Sidney, and he does a lot of other stuff.”

Q: What is one thing you wish people would do more of?

TARRELL: “I would say walk around more. I think people should get outside as much as possible. I think it’s very beneficial to your health.”

Q: Do you have any siblings?

TARRELL: “I have one older brother, Reid Doyle. He’s 28. He’s a chiropractor in Montana.”
