Staying positive through the pain

Heidi Earl has been battling painful skin rashes, severe joint pain, Crohn’s disease, adrenal gland problems, and many other health setbacks the last 20 years, but the 39-year Scottsbluff woman isn’t letting any of that keep her from staying upbeat and doing whatever she can to help uplift other people going through tough times.

SCOTTSBLUFF – On a good day, Heidi Earl of Scottsbluff can move around her house for a few minutes without needing to use a walker or a wheelchair. And if she’s really lucky, she’ll be able to do something she enjoys, like journaling, without feeling too much pain.

Most of the time, though, Earl’s life is filled with constant battles with a number of complications, such as joint pain, dizziness, mobility issues, dehydration, very low blood pressure, and even an inability to control her body’s temperature normally.

“When people see me, or if they would see my medical history, I think most people would say I have a really poor quality of life,” said Earl, who’s only 39 years old. “I’ve had people say to me, ‘I don’t know how you get through this’ or ‘I could never handle that.’ I admit that my quality of life is really poor a lot of the time, but I don’t like to focus on that. I want to focus on the good things that are happening in my life.”
